The Sounds of Sleep

If there is one silver lining to all of this rain we've been having, it is that I've been reminded of how amazing it is to go to sleep to the sound of the rain outside. I just love that. I find it so soothing. In fact, in college, I actually had a cd of "distant thunderstorms" that I used to play as I was falling asleep.

The makers of sound machines proclaim that "white noise" helps you achieve deeper, better sleep. I believe that. When Sadie was real little, we used to run the humidifier at night to create white noise. My sister-in-law plays a cd of a heartbeat for her little one. I also know that in the summer, when we have our ceiling fan going, I sleep so well.

But still, for me, the best nighttime lullaby is still the original, authentic April rainstorm.
