It begins again!
Today is Sadie's first day of school. She fell asleep quickly last night (thanks to a late night the night before and an intentionally early waking from me) and slept well. Woke up ready to face the world, or at least, the third grade. She told me she was excited but also nervous - to which I replied, "And that's exactly how you are supposed to feel."
Eden has one last day off, then we go for her meet and greet tomorrow, and her school starts in earnest on Tuesday. She has been very nervous about it - at least, I believe so, based on her behavior over the past few weeks. I'm certain after Tuesday, she'll feel a tremendous sense of relief. At least, I hope!
Starting next week, we really jump in with both feet to the chaos again. Sadie's extracurricular schedule is shaping up something like this:
Tuesdays - Brownies
Sundays and Wednesdays - Hebrew school
Thursdays - soccer practice
Saturdays - soccer games
So, this coming weekend is really our last free, calm, unscheduled weekend for the foreseeable future. I'm trying to leave it that way, too. We've got our block party on Sunday, but other than that - no plans except savoring a last beach weekend and mentally preparing to switch gears.

Quickly...
This is going to be short, but it was definitely note-worthy...
Today was Sadie's first day of school. She has somewhat pretended to be miserable about going back for a few weeks, but in my mind, it has mostly been an act. There hasn't been any of the anxiety or acting out that characterized the end of last summer.
Anyway, this morning, I walked her and Abby over to school. This year, we're letting Sadie be an 'unescorted walker' in the afternoons; meaning, she can just walk herself home without being signed out. Evan had told her that today he would meet the girls outside of the building, and then they could plan from there how they want to proceed. So, on the walk in, I overheard Sadie telling Abby, "tomorrow I get to walk myself home all the way. Today, my dad really wants to meet me outside the building." This made me chuckle, and made me realize how right she is - SHE has no anxiety getting herself home - it is all Evan...
Anyway, we got to the school and I walked them inside and then before I could even say goodbye, Sadie took off and headed down the hall to her new classroom without even a look back. I'm so proud of her - what a far cry from the little girl who cried at dropoff every day! All the same, it is bittersweet, this business of growing up.
So, one more week and then we get to do the first day all over again with Eden - my confident, independent little go-getter. I'm excited for her!

Tick Tock...Tick Tock
today may very well be the longest day ever. ever.
we dropped a crying Sadie off at her first day of first grade this morning. While I tell myself that she most likely stopped sobbing as soon as she got into her classroom and saw that her best friend was there, I guess I won't really know for sure until the end of the day, will I?

First Day!
She did great! No tears (for her, anyway...I was teary as we walked away). I can't wait to get the end of the day report.
Today's the day
Sadie starts kindergarten this afternoon. She is nervous, but putting on a brave face. She did well at yesterday's orientation, and I think going and seeing it has helped to allay some of her anxiety.
I have butterflies in my stomach about how drop-off is going to go...so much so that I haven't even allowed myself to really feel sad about the fact that my baby is going to school. That will come afterwards, I'm sure.
